Mario VS Sonic – Let the Game Begin

Ah… How can one forget Mario and Sonic? Both these games took the gaming industry by storm. But people still wonder, which one is the best to stay forever? Mario and Sonic, two different fictional characters, both have the same beliefs in heroism but have different skills and personal methods to defeating their offensive equals to save the world from insecure influence and oppressive control. If we were to put America’s both beloved video game characters into a fighting ring, track, swimming pool and throwing javelins, who do you think will come out on top? Let look at the pros and cons and evaluate both characters. After all, one might have complete advantage over another.

MARIO

(Pro):

Mario has a series of power ups he can use to fight off all sorts of bad guys. Starting with the mushroom, it can give him a second application of strength to break bricks and to stomp on harder foes (except ones with spikes, fire enemies and man eating plants). Add the fire flower and he has the power to shoot fireballs. Raccoon and Tanooki Mario can both fly but tanooki Mario is able to turn into stone at will. Add the P-wing and he is able to fly for a long time. The feather turns Mario into cape Mario where he is able to take off and fly, float, and dive bomb to create earthquakes. For swimming Mario’s frog suit enables him to swim in the water with ease and when he is out of the water, he can jump farther than what he could do normally. The hammer bros. suit is one of my favorite power ups because Mario is able to throw hammers. Now Mario has power caps he can wear like the invincible cap to go through mesh walls, the flight cap which allow Mario to fly, and the metal cap turns Mario into a medal man where he can be in dangerous places he normally wouldn’t go. The superstar is superior to all of the power-ups Mario use except the fact that this power up has only a limited amount of time. All of these power-ups are in reference of the games in the Nintendo™ console series as follows:

Super Mario bros.

Super Mario 3

Super Mario world

Super Mario 64

(Con):

By himself, the only power he has is jumping, sliding, spinning, punching, kicking, throwing, pounding, and stomping on enemies, therefore if it was a trivial battle, without the power-ups, Mario could have a chance of success at winning. But if it’s a battle that could require power-ups to defeat certain enemies and went in at it alone without power-ups, Mario would be in a disadvantage.

SONIC

(Pro):

Unlike Mario, the only power Sonic has is in the shoes he wears. Sonic’s ability is using his own speed (through his sneakers), double jumps, and slide kick and spin attacks, grinding and using hillside advantages to defeat numerous enemies. When sonic collects seven chaos emeralds, he turns into super sonic and stays in that form as long the rings he collect doesn’t run out. Once the ring power is gone, he’s back to regular Sonic. On every course, Sonic’s superior accuracy and speed make him a top notch hero. The only defensive and offensive power-ups sonic has is the invincibility barrier (which doesn’t last long), the regular barrier, fire barrier, water barrier, and the electric barrier.

All of the information is in reference to the Sonic Series made by Sega™:

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Sonic CD

Sonic 3D Blast

Sonic and Knuckles

(Con):

With all the natural abilities Sonic have, the only drawback he has is that Sonic can’t swim underwater. Unless Sonic pick up a water barrier or a large air bubble, he doesn’t have a chance. He is able to run on water in super speed though.

As we compared the two heroes, it is very hard to say who possibility would win. From the way it seems like that one might have an edge on another, it still doesn’t determine the outcome of the battle. Like if player 1 got more strength than player 2. If you play any games, you would notice that strength is not calculated but only skill, semantics, probability, and sequence can help you win any battle. But as far as having both of them in the Olympics for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS, that’s a whole another story. For both Mario and Sonic fans, this will be a clash of titans.
