The Google team have been frittering away again, this time with their Google Earth application. Believe it or not, Google has released a custom multi-touchy version of the global model just for the iPhone. The app uses the iPhone accelerometer to pan and tilt… turning you into a true master of the universe. You can zoom, twirl and pan all around the world with just a few flicks and taps of your fingers.

In total, the application works perfectly, almost as if it came to the iPhone before the desktop. Performance is great, though when you aren’t on WiFi it can get a little bit jerky. Google Earth comes with GPS features to help you locate stuff around you, and boasts great little tools such as the wiki and photo point overlays.

Even if you aren’t an iPhone fan, keep an eye on Multi-touch versions of Google Earth, because finding places of interest just got a whole lot more fun.
