The Doobie Brothers are an American rock group. They have sold over 22 million albums in the United States from the 1970s to the present. The Doobie Brothers were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
The Doobie Brothers embodied music like no body and their style has become a musical archetype. They performed at the halftime show of the 75th Fedex Orange Bowl game on Thursday, Jan 1, 2009 at the Dolphin stadium.
Much like the sunny Pacific atmosphere in which they incubated their approach, the Doobies sound washes past you like a cool breeze. That’s even as it percolates with hooks and rousing grooves, as best captured on radio staples like “China Grove” and “Black Water.” And, though certain key elements from the classic era – Michael McDonald, Jeff “Skunk” Baxter – are long gone, the band has impressively retained longtime core members Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, John McFee, and Michael Hossack.
In fact, only the flawed, fun game between Cincinnati and Virginia Tech seemed to fit in with those increasingly bleary highlights of Kansas’ 12-men, goal-line quarterback sneaks by Alabama’s Joe Namath (stopped) and Nebraska’s Jerry Tagge (touchdown) and Ken Calhoun tipping off the University of Miami’s era of dominance.
