Google’s speedy browser, Chrome has now officially shed its beta skin with the release of its first non beta version. According to its maker, this fifteenth Chrome release features:
- Better stability and performance of plug-ins (particularly video).
- Even more speed. Since the first beta, the V8 JavaScript engine runs 1.4 times faster on the SunSpider benchmark and 1.5 times faster on the V8 benchmark — and there is more speed to come.
- Bookmark manager and privacy controls. It’s now easier to switch between another browser and Google Chrome with the bookmark import and export features, and we added a new simple way to manage large numbers of bookmarks, too.
More additions, like form autofill, RSS and extensions support are currently in the works and will arrive within later versions. To download Chrome 1.0 visit this page.

With economic problems likely to plague the world for quite a bit longer, even a chip giant like Intel can’t really ignore new revenue streams with one possible choice being electric car battery manufacturing. According to reports, former Intel chairman Andrew Grove is trying to convince the current Intel management team to start making batteries and seize a big piece of the young but full of potential market for such products.

Microsoft expects Vienna to be completed by 2010, the most talked about feature of this future OS is MinWin – a minimalistic variation of the Windows 7 kernel. On October 13, 2007, Eric Traut gave a presentation in which he demonstrated MinWin, running a basic HTTP server. The demo system presented was an OS image made up of 100 files and made up a total of 25 MB on disk and a working set of 40 MB. It lacked a graphical UI and was interfaced using a text console UI.

We mention here that Chip giant Intel is now saying that it has a pre-production WDDM 1.1 graphics driver for Microsoft’s upcoming operating system, Windows 7. Set to help OEMs and beta testers get the “full Windows 7 experience,” the drivers can be used with current and future Windows 7 releases.
Microsoft has, up until now only provided pre-beta Windows 7 builds but plans to have a Beta 1 of the OS in January.

AMD has provided Windows 7 drivers for its Radeon cards since October.
